After expansions from 2006 to 2009, membership in the league was fairly consistent with only a few moves and suspensions. In 2009, the Houston Rockets entered into the first single-affiliation partnership, the so-called hybrid model, with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This triggered a wave of NBA and D-League teams entering into unique affiliation agreements of hybrid variants and owned by the parent team.
